Requirements and application


Requirements for fellows are:


- Work experience of at least 2 years in Public Health institutions

- Health personnel, preferably engaged in the management, prevention and control of infectious diseases

- a degree or proficiency in:

  • Public Health,
  • Medicine,
  • Epidemiology,
  • Microbiology,
  • Biology,
  • Equivalent life science disciplines,

- An endorsement document of the current employer confirming a minimum of a one-year contract endurance following completion of the programme is required. This endorsement should include an assurance that the GIBACHT fellow will be released from work for the three 1-week presence courses. 


The following wording can be used for this assurance in the endorsement letter. “Our institute supports the participation of Mr / Mrs __________________ in the GIBACHT fellowship and will release (him/her) from work for the three GIBACHT presence workshops, which will take place from the 24 to 28 April 2017, the 10 to 14 July 2017 and the 23 to 27 October 2017.”   


Advanced proficiency in English is indispensable for all participants. Internet access is required for the e-learning modules.

Successful completion of the programme will be certified after:

  • Successful completion of all GIBACHT e-learning modules
  • Presence and active participation in all three face-to-face workshops
  • Fulfilment of pertinent, distance-based deliverables in a group


Application procedure


In order to apply for participation in the programme, send

  • a CV,
  • a letter of motivation (maximum of 300 words)
  • an endorsement document of the current employer, stating your leave of absence from work in the indicated periods for the three face to face courses
  • and all other accredited documents confirming your eligibility as outlined above.

Selection procedure


As spaces are limited in the program, a two-stage selection procedure will be applied:


  • The steering board of the programme will select from all applications those who will be admitted to the first 8 e-learning modules
  • After the completion of these 8 modules, the best 16 fellows will be admitted to the full programme.



Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
